Seijinshiki 成人 式.

It is the ceremony to welcome young people who turn 20 years of age.

The second Monday of January is officially considered in Japan as Seijin No Hi (the day of coming of age or the day of the adult). The municipalities send letters to these young people with a congratulation and an invitation to a ceremony that is organized in the public auditoriums, who come in their best clothes with their beautiful kimonos, hakamas or with suits. In this ceremony for these “new adults” the mayor transmits messages to encourage young people and also informs them about the responsibilities that they will have to face throughout their lives as adults.
