Inauguration of the "Nikkei Paraguayan Identity Center - Looking to the Future"

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, the inauguration ceremony of the “Nikkei Paraguayan Identity Center - Looking to the Future” was held at the facilities of the Japanese Association of Encarnacion. The event was held in direct connection with Tokyo, Japan, and had the participation of the International Advisor of the Nikkei Identity Center Lic. Norio Yonezaki.

It should be noted that the event was carried out in strict compliance with the COVID-19 sanitary protocol required by the MSPBS (Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare).

The opening ceremony featured the words of the following authorities:

Ms. Aiko Kurosu, President of the Japanese Association of Encarnacion.

Mr. Fukui Yasushi, Resident Representative of JICA in Paraguay.

Lic. Sofía Montiel de Afara, National Minister of Tourism.

Her Excellency Ambassador of Japan in Paraguay, Mrs. Yoshie Nakatani.

Mr. Luis Yd, Mayor of the city of Encarnacion.

Lic. Verónica Stefáni, Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Itapúa, representing the Governor of Itapúa.

The Nikkei Paraguayan Identity Center - Looking to the Future, was created with the purpose of Recognizing, Strengthening and Valuing the precious “Paraguayan Nikkei Identity”, as well as to deepen the knowledge about the history and legacy of the Japanese immigrants who entered Paraguay by Encarnacion.

The Center exhibits, with photographs and documentaries, the history of Japanese immigration, customs, traditions, art, culture, and progress through the years.

It is a space where society in general can learn about the value of the Paraguayan Nikkei identity, as a hybrid identity that is part of our culture.

The Nikkei Paraguayan Identity Center - Looking to the Future was declared:

Of National Tourist Interest by the National Tourism Secretariat (SENATUR) of the Paraguayan Republic.

Of Departmental Interest by the Government of the Department of Itapúa.

Of Municipal Interest by the Municipality of the City of Encarnacion.
